Pockets Full of Learning
Over long breaks from school, V. needs something to satisfy her creative curiosity so we invented the learning pockets. We went to Big Lots and bought a colorful shoe organizer.
I looked up a bunch of fun science experiments, reading activities, crafts, and math games. I wrote each activity on an index card and secretly placed it in one of the pockets (along with any materials that would fit). Each day of the break, V. would pick a pocket and we would complete the surprise activity. She loved the mystery! It was quite an endeavor for me to come up with the ideas so I throughout the year, when I came across something good, I saved it. That way I didn't have to spend hours at a time finding and creating things.
